  Children’s Cancer Research Fund

Children's Cancer Research Fund provides critical funding to the University of Minnesota Cancer Center for research and training relating to the prevention, treatment and cure of childhood cancers. The organization also educates the public about childhood cancer and supports quality-of-life programs for pediatric cancer patients and their families at the University of Minnesota Children's Hospital, Fairview.

While eight out of 10 children diagnosed with cancer can be successfully treated today, cancer is still the leading cause of death by illness among children. In fact one in every 350 kids is diagnosed with cancer before the age of 20.

Children's Cancer Research Fund focuses on supporting cutting-edge research initiatives by the Cancer Center that lead to larger studies, clinical trials and improved methods of treating childhood cancer. Ultimately, it will be the breakthroughs in diagnosis and treatment that help find ways of preventing and curing the disease. Every dollar Children's Cancer Research Fund provide to the University in the form of "seed money" typically generates $10 to $20 in national grant funding.

Through the organization's Care Partners program, more than 125 volunteers provide support and encouragement to pediatric oncology and blood or marrow transplant patients and their family members at the University of Minnesota Children's Hospital, Fairview. Established in 1983, Care Partners has worked with nearly 2,600 families from all over the world.
